System crashes after disconnecting from internet

My computer frequently hangs the moment I disconnect from the internet. It has a K2 333 processor, 64MB of RAM and a PC Card Dynamode modem. The PC does not respond to Ctrl, Alt, Del. I have to switch it off and on to use it again. Why is this?

The only documented instance of this problem in the Microsoft Knowledgebase relates to a different type of modem to the one you are using. However, the solution may apply to yours, too. The problem occurs because the drivers for the modem are not compatible with Windows 98 power management. Either obtain updated drivers for the modem or disable power management.
